It is very important to regularly check for updates in order to keep your Windows OS stable and functional. Windows Update utility within Windows 7 was designed to allow you to manage your updates easily. Although it may stuck while checking for updates for a very long time, but in the most number of cases it will eventually do its job correctly.

Still sometimes it can return en error code like: 80244022, 80244022c, 80080005, 80072EFD, 8024402c , 80004002, t8007000e, 80072f8f, 80072ee2, 8024402f along with message saying “Windows could not search for new updates“, “An error occured while checking for new updates for your computer” and “Windows Update encountered an unknown error“.

Method 1: Turn off your antivirus or firewall software

Many antivirus or firewall programs such as Avast, Avira, Nod32, ZoneAlarm or Comodo may block Windows Update utility, preventing it to access Microsoft repositories. Make sure to stop all kind of similar services before running Windows Updates. Sometimes some of these programs may still block updater even when stopped, so they have to be completely uninstalled in order to get rid of their actions.

Method 2: Reset Winsock Catalog through command prompt

    2. Select first and the only choice named “cmd.exe” and command prompt window will appear.

    3. Type “netsh winsock reset” into the command prompt window and press ENTER.

    4. Turn off the command prompt window, reboot your PC and try running Windows Update utility again.

Method 3: Adjust your Windows date and time

Make sure that your Windows 7 date and time is set correctly, since this can also be a reason for updates to return error. If your time is not set correctly, follow these steps to fix it:

    1. Right click on your clock at the bottom-right corner of the screen and select Adjust date/time.

    2. Date and Time utility window will open. Click on the button labeled “Change date and time“.

     3. Set your date and time correctly and press OK twice to exit and save changes.

    4. Try running Windows Update utility again.

    Share this page via:

Old Grand Theft Auto series are still quite popular these days, especially GTA San Andreas. These games still works very well under Windows 7, 8 and even 10. Still, they sometimes needs to be pushed a little bit to function properly. That’s usually the case with mouse functionality.

Since GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas all use the same engine, they might share the same bugs. When these games are installed on Windows 7 or a newer OS, there might be a problem with mouse clicking and moving (mouse look) through the game. This occurs due to a newer version of Dinput.dll library which isn’t compatible with these games.

Follow these steps to solve mouse click/move problem:

    1. Download Dinput8.dll file

    2. Extract file using WinRar archiver or 7-Zip

    3. Right-click on extracted Dinput8.dll file and choose Copy

    4. Navigate game installation directory, right click inside the folder and choose Paste. If Copy File dialog prompts, choose Copy and Replace

Default GTA folder paths for Windows 7:

    GTA 3 – C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\GTAIII
Vice City – C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto Vice City
    San Andreas – C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\GTA San Andreas

Note: You can easily jump into the game install folder by right-clicking on the game’s shortcut and choosing “Open file location”

  • How To Reinstall, Repair Or Uninstall DirectX (Windows 7)

    Share this page via:

    What is DirectX?

Microsoft DirectX is the most important software when it comes to handling multimedia content in Windows Operating System. Video games depend on DirectX so heavily that even the smallest error or corrupted library within the DirectX Runtime Components may result in game crashes.

DirectX related problems usually trigger error prompts at the beginning of the program’s execution, making it unavailable to run any further. To avoid these problems, make sure your DirectX version is always up to date.

Whenever you install a new game, pay close attention to what installation has to offer because it will probably ask you to install/upgrade DirectX. You should always accept this, and if your version is already up to date, installer will skip the DirectX installation and finish installation normally.

    Reinstall, repair or delete DirectX

Whatever you need to do with your local DirectX installation, it is certainly that you are trying to fix some errors or problems caused by damaged or deleted DirectX files. The best way to repair any DirectX related problem is to install the latest version from Microsoft official download site: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

Download a DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer (dxwebsetup.exe) to your local disk and run it. If it goes through the installation and finishes normally, it means that your previous version wasn’t up to date, and that should fix your problems. But if installation finishes saying:

DirectX setup has determined that a newer or equivalent version of DirectX has been installed already. No installation is necessary.

,then you will have to trick the installer to overwrite your local version. This can be done by modifying a registry key where DirectX saves its version number. It is stored under:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DirectX\Version

Set the key value to 4.08.00.0904 and try running installer again. It will detect an older version and proceed with installation.

If you don’t want to mass around with registry keys, you can simply download and run this file and it will modify DirectX version number for you: DirectX Version Number Modifier
