  • Unable to Load Older Save Files in GTA San Andreas / Vice City? Game Crashes While Loading? Fix It In a Minute!

“gta_sa.exe stopped working” error message while loading game

GTA San Andreas is still one of the most popular open-world video game. Although it is very interesting to play through the game story, some folks rather choose to download save file from the internet in order to skip specific missions or entire storyline to be able to free roam the huge GTA SA map, with all game features unlocked. This “trick” sometimes may be a little bit difficult to archive since some game versions are not compatible with some savegames and vice versa. The major reason for this incompatibility issue is the newer Grand Theft Auto San Andreas version released by Steam. If you are on the Steam version of game and you try to load an older save file (created with non-steam game version), you’ll probably end up with error prompt saying “gta_sa.exe stopped working“.

    How to fix?

Follow these steps to solve compatibility issue between save file and game version:

    1. Download GTA-San-Andreas-script.rar file

    2. Extract file using WinRar archiver or 7-Zip

    3. Select both extracted files (main.scm and script.img), right-click on selection and choose Copy

    4. Navigate to the game’s script files within installation folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\GTA San Andreas\data\script\ , right click inside the folder and choose Paste. When Copy File dialog prompts, choose Copy and Replace

    5. Run your copy of GTA San Andreas and try loading saved game again

Since GTA III, GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas are all based on the same engine, this workaround will also fix save loading problems with GTA III and GTA Vice City.

  • Unable To Click And Move With Mouse in GTA III / Vice City / San Andreas… How To Fix?

    Share this page via:

Old Grand Theft Auto series are still quite popular these days, especially GTA San Andreas. These games still works very well under Windows 7, 8 and even 10. Still, they sometimes needs to be pushed a little bit to function properly. That’s usually the case with mouse functionality.

Since GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas all use the same engine, they might share the same bugs. When these games are installed on Windows 7 or a newer OS, there might be a problem with mouse clicking and moving (mouse look) through the game. This occurs due to a newer version of Dinput.dll library which isn’t compatible with these games.

Follow these steps to solve mouse click/move problem:

    1. Download Dinput8.dll file

    2. Extract file using WinRar archiver or 7-Zip

    3. Right-click on extracted Dinput8.dll file and choose Copy

    4. Navigate game installation directory, right click inside the folder and choose Paste. If Copy File dialog prompts, choose Copy and Replace

Default GTA folder paths for Windows 7:

    GTA 3 – C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\GTAIII
Vice City – C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto Vice City
    San Andreas – C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\GTA San Andreas

Note: You can easily jump into the game install folder by right-clicking on the game’s shortcut and choosing “Open file location”
